About Dr. Smedley:
Rebecca Smedley is an anatomic pathologist at the Michigan State University (MSU) Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). She received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2000 from MSU. After four years in small animal practice, Rebecca returned to MSU for an anatomic pathology residency from 2004-2007 and completed a Master of Science degree in Pathology in 2008. She received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2007. Since 2007 she has been working as an Academic Specialist in Anatomic Pathology at the MSU VDL, primarily reading surgical biopsies. Rebecca has served as the biopsy coordinator at the VDL since 2015. Her primary interests in include: tumor pathology, particularly melanocytic neoplasms; canine liver disease; and bone pathology. Rebecca has served on the National Cancer Institute Comparative Melanoma Tumor Board from 2012-2013, served as the Chair of the Canine Melanoma Subcommittee of the ACVP/ASVCP Oncology Initiative Committee from 2009 to 2012, served as the Co-chair of the melanoma subgroup of the Oncology-Pathology Working Group from 2015 to the present, and was a member of the Journal of Veterinary Pathology editorial board from 2014-2017.
